- Design Nine has been working with the New Hampshire FastRoads open access network project for several years. Our work has included early phase broadband planning and needs assessment, grant writing assistance that led to a $7.7 million ARRA stimulus award, and detailed financial and operational planning. Design Nine is currently helping FastRoads connect 22 communities with middle mile and last mile fiber. The FastRoads area covers nearly a quarter of the state, including some of the most rural towns and communities.
- The City of Eagan, Minnesota has used Design Nine to help develop a strategy for attracting a data center to the City, and is moving forward with plans to open City-owned fiber to business use as an open access network. Construction is starting in the fall of 2011 for this open access network.
- The Rockbridge Area Network Authority has hired Design Nine to design and build 138 miles of fiber. The RANA service area includes Rockbridge county and the cities of Buena Vista and Lexington, Virginia. The effort also includes construction of a major regional colocation and data center facility. Design Nine assisted RANA with the developed of an ARRA stimulus proposal that resulted in a $10 million stimulus award.
- Palm Coast, Florida Design Nine assisted the City with the conversion of unused network capacity into an open access network and a strong economic development tool. The City-owned network is in its second year of operation, and finished in the black operationally at the end of its first year of service. The project has received an enthusiastic response from service providers and local businesses.
